CIFEC Students display their ‘Canvas’ Movie Posters at CayFilm!

It was great to see the work of the BTEC Art & Design students on display at CayFilm tonight! These are the 3 winning ‘Canvas” poster designs created by the students. These students were among the four who received Distinction* for their BTEC qualification! This year over 85% of students on the course gained the higher grades of Merit or Distinction. We had over 70% of students at an overall  Distinction grade which included 55% of students being awarded a Distinction*!

Thanks so much to Pascal of PCreative for working with the students during our Artist in Residence programme and for inspiring us all by creating such an awesome film! The trailer can be seen here and you can see the entire film on the festival circuit. Good luck Pascal can’t wait to see the next film!

You can also see the posters featured in the Cayman Compass video and photographs that accompany their news coverage.

Working with Isy B

Filming for the  Isy B online catalogue

In 2018 we were asked to shoot and edit her online explainer videos for her summer dresses. This was another exciting opportunity for media students to work with industry professionals and learn even more about the creative industries.

We have also worked with Isy B to produce the photographs for her online catalogue.

Official Event Videographers at Red Sky at Night 2018

BTEC Level 3 Creative Media Production students were invited to film as event videographers for Red Sky At Night 2018. Here at CIFEC our media department produces films under the name Kaymanite Production. Katty Christian, Michael Pearson and Andrea William worked under the supervision of their Media Teacher Mrs Musser to capture the essence of the event. Katty says, “I got to use my newly upgraded media skills to work for a client and show them what we are capable of doing. With creativity and alongside a great team we experienced and captured a spectacular event”. They filmed throughout the afternoon and into the night to collect several hours of footage. Michael Pearson says, “I’ve developed my communication skills and become more confident with filming”.

Furball Gala video for the Humane Society Cayman

Students on the BTEC Level 2 Creative Media Production have recently completed a  live project with the Cayman Islands Humane Society. They were chosen to produce a short film that highlights the great work of the Humane Society to be shown at the Furball Gala.

They spent a month filming on location and working closely with the Humane Society’s staff and animals. Jonassi McLean is the Sound Designer for the production. He says, “this has been a great experience, I’ve had the chance to work on my sound editing and writing skills. I’ve also learnt how important it is to be able to communicate with others on the team”. Director of Photography Jacinda Simms found the experience rewarding, “it was really good working with animals even if sometimes they don’t follow directions! I got to learn about operating different cameras and filming techniques. I also liked being on location with my team and learning new things from my teacher”. Mrs Musser is the course leader for the CIFEC Creative Media courses. “This has been a fantastic opportunity for the students and they now understand the pressure when working to a clients deadline!”  We also had the opportunity to promote the Humane Society and the film  on Cayman 27 news.

The Humane Society have been very impressed with the professionalism of the students and also invited some students to assist with photography at the Furball Gala. Gabriel Morla is the Director for the film, he says, “it’s been great because I’ve been working for a real client. I can’t wait to see the film on the big screen at the Furball Gala  and learn from a professional photographer.”

The film premiered to over 300 people at the fundraising event the, Furball Gala dinner on the 8th April 2017.
